Business applications are meant to help organizations. However, many times they create more headaches than benefits. Do you identify with any of these experiences?
- Having search engines where it is difficult to find what you are looking for if you don’t search for the exact keyword
- Recommender systems that offer limited added value to the user. For example, offering more of the same product or content instead of complementary items
- Analytics tools that don’t really support decision making
- Chatbots that fail the Alan Turing test
- You name it!
The customer and employee experience when using an application is key for companies to have a real impact on their processes and results. Knowledge graphs have greatly helped to successfully enhance business-critical enterprise applications, especially those where high performance tagging and agile data integration is needed.
How can you build knowledge graphs for enterprise applications? This blog gives an overview of a product bundling that relies on two industry leaders that help you do this.
Partner with PoolParty and GraphDB to build knowledge graphs for enterprise applications.
Enterprises generate an enormous amount of data and content every minute. Knowledge graphs allow organizations to enrich it with semantic metadata, making it ready to be used across teams and enterprise systems.
Knowledge graphs use a powerful software stack to support the modern data and content infrastructure needed to create smart applications and leverage existing ones.
Semantic Web Company and Ontotext have been working in the field of semantic web technologies for over two decades. They own two of the top-rated knowledge graph products on the market. And now they have launched new offerings based on a well-designed and proven integration between PoolParty Semantic Suite and GraphDB.
The new offerings, which we have named PoolParty Enterprise PowerPack and PoolParty Integrator PowerPack, bundle these software with all the features you need to solve two common data challenges at an unbeatable price-for-value: agile data integration and precise automated tagging.
It provides the blueprint for success and allows applications to:
- Manage taxonomies and knowledge graphs in PoolParty’s user-friendly interface
- Perform automated and assisted tagging operations over your data
- Analyze large amounts of unstructured and structured data
- Scale and grow with your needs
- Consume data in multiple ways (SPARQL, JDBC, GraphQL)
- Get contextually relevant search results in a fraction of a time
PoolParty and GraphDB in a nutshell.
Semantic Web Company’s PoolParty Semantic Suite allows you to model your business domain through controlled vocabularies and build rich relationships between them to provide more context to your data. It’s the perfect tool for managing taxonomies, ontologies, and knowledge graphs at scale and using them as the foundation for text mining, classification, natural language processing, and more.
Ontotext’s GraphDB is a knowledge graph database that allows you to store and query metadata created in PoolParty using RDF (Resource Description Framework) and SPARQL (RDF query language). It is a highly performant reasoning and query engine that is simple to operate.

Use cases for knowledge graph technologies are diverse. That’s why we wanted to inspire you with a collection of customer stories that might help you better define your own use case.
Skills & Competence Knowledge Management
JobTeaser is a career portal that mentors applicants to make the best profiles and find jobs that fit their criteria. In order to match users to the most accurate profiles, the JobTeaser platform assesses many aspects including psychology, salary expectations, skill profiles, job definitions, etc. With such a diverse baseline, JobTeaser requires a sophisticated semantic approach that integrates multiple facets of data such as the ESCO Skills Taxonomy and GraphDB to create a controlled vocabulary of skills and careers.
Uncovering Wildlife Intelligence with Taxonomy Management
PoolParty’s taxonomy management solutions have helped non-profit organization, Sensing Clues, deliver a suite of tools that tracks the movements and patterns of illegal poaching activities across the globe. Field rangers take notations about the wildlife and surrounding areas using a taxonomy of activities and observations. Prior to using PoolParty, Sensing Clues struggled to model their knowledge domain in terms of multilinguality and the complex scientific terminology that was required. However, with the help of implementing GraphDB’s vast collection of concepts, Sensing Clues could easily create a pragmatic thesaurus of terms, and cement the tracking capabilities of the Sensing Clues Wildlife Tool Suite.
Improving Safety and Reliability in Industrial Operations
Our customer is a global provider of electrical engineering and software equipment related to the machinery industry. Before PoolParty, shift handovers between laborers at production plants either resulted in inaccurate or missing information, or information delivered in an untimely manner. This impacted the safety conditions of the plant. Using PoolParty and the GraphDB data cluster, our customer was able to build an Operations Management Knowledge Graph which mapped flags/errors in technical equipment and gave employees a 360-degree view of their workspace so they could be better informed about the conditions and fix them faster.
Natural Language Querying
PoolParty’s partnership with Ontotext has allowed PoolParty to help build cutting edge natural language processing (NLP) solutions for customers. We have been able to make a chatbot that helps our customer in home interior supplies and services deliver better customer service to their clients seeking preliminary information on their website. Our customer previously struggled with being unable to supply useful information through a chatbot that couldn’t process client requests well. With added NLP capabilities, the chatbot could better understand user questions, process information from various sources, and respond with the best selected answer from the sources.
Improving Customer Satisfaction With Semantic Search
PoolParty customer Insider Intelligence is a research firm that gives users access to information, data, and trends concerning digital business. Prior to working with PoolParty, the company’s taxonomists struggled to manually update the research taxonomy with new topics and related items. Consequently, Insider Intelligence’s users suffered from poor search experiences on the frontend website. Through using the GraphDB store integrated with PoolParty and PoolParty’s easy-to-use taxonomy management tool, the taxonomists could seamlessly update the taxonomy with new information and build a powerful semantic search engine that provided users with useful information more quickly. Results matched user intent and also suggested related results based on the terms in the taxonomy.
Innovative Health Services based on Recommendation
HealthDirect Australia is the main national public health information service in Australia. Using a thesaurus, they have been able to make an intelligent “symptom checker” for Australian citizens who can use the site to determine what they should do about the symptoms they are experiencing based on the recommendations the platform gives them. The symptoms, diseases, and actions are located in the backend as an interconnected knowledge graph that maps items to each other in order to deliver the best action plans for the person checking their symptoms. On top of action plans, the recommender system can show users related pages, key facts about a particular disease or symptom, and further subject readings.
Digital Transformation as an accelerator for Semantic Technologies
Wolters Kluwer, a leading publisher of professional information/services in legal, healthcare, accounting, and compliance sectors, transformed their data management processes by implementing a taxonomy-led solution. Their data which was previously stored in XML formats could not be updated easily by the subject matter experts, hindering the quality of the metadata and the ability to publish data in a timely manner. Housed in PoolParty´s Taxonomy Server and coupled with the integration of GraphDB Triple Store, Wolters Kluwer was able to build a thesaurus fit for the company’s complex and demanding use case. The new thesaurus has the added benefits of being multilingual and collaborative for their international offices.
