ChatGPT´s temperature

The temperature slider is a common feature in large language models that changes the output of the model based on degrees of “creativity” or randomness.
Different temperature settings can generate different responses:
  • Lower Temperature (0.1 - 0.4): Lower level of hallucination. Generates accurate, consistent responses and factual information.
  • Moderate Temperature (e.g. 0.5 - 0.9): Maintains a balance between creativity and consistency. Blends accuracy and resourcefulness.
  • Higher temperature (e.g. 1.0 - 2.0): Produces more creative, varied, and unexpected results. Helps to get new perspectives on a subject.
By integrating a knowledge model, ChatGPT is topic-specific and can therefore continue to generate reliable answers despite higher temperatures. While creative answers are still produced in the higher settings, they are derived from traceable expert-approved sources.
Just like in “real life”: The more you know, the more you dare to put forward a hypothesis.
